Jeremiah 29:11-13
'For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. 'Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 'And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
I DECLARE sometimes life is like a well-paved road, straight and smooth. When you're driving along with good tires, good brakes and plenty of gas, everything seems to be going your way. Other times, it feels more like a wet, muddy, winding stretch of goo that bogs your tires down or lets them spin aimlessly going nowhere.
In those times when the road is smooth we tend to forget to pay attention. Sometimes we nod off or find ourselves to have traveled long distances without realizing it. These times are times of plenty. No worries, no cares, just free wheeling down life's road.
Those times when we find ourselves bogged down, or slipping and sliding uncontrollably, we try harder to concentrate, remember our prayers and supplications to God. We fight for control of our vehicles and pray we make it home or at least to a safe place in one piece. Once we know we are out of danger, we thank God for his help and for his guidance and vow never again to take that road. But for some reason, we always end up on that road sooner or later. After driving many miles on those stretches of good roads, we forget what a trial the bad road was and decide to take the shortcut again. We never seem to learn from our mistakes.
I have read the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Seems there are a LOT of insane people in this world. Why can't we learn from our mistakes and learn to follow Christ down the straight smooth road instead of trying to venture out on our own? Why can't we learn to ask him for guidance when times are good as well as when times are bad? Why do we insist on not paying attention and coasting along in life until something bad happens to force us to turn to Him for help?
